Mother and Children Series 2
- Birds
Acrylic on a canvas with wood frame
36"x36", 2022. #3611
This was inspired by an article from The Oregonian.
These images are from a series of photographs of a mother and her babies.
It was a story about the very coldhearted and brutal nature of survival, with not all babies surviving toward the end.
I love this big gap between the cute photographic images and the story behind them.
The mother feeds only one of her two eaglets,
then stands by looking bored as the fattened bird repeatedly pecks its starving sibling to death.
This paintings shows everything looking fine in this moment,
but the mother already knows the future won’t be the same.
I originally finished this painting in 2007, but recently decided to change some details.
