Peter

This portrait is based on a black-and-white photograph of Kodi Smit-McPhee.

His character, Peter, in the film The Power of the Dog left a strong impression on me

—the image of a teenage boy struggling both mentally and, at times, physically.

In this painting, I tried to convey more of that emotional tension

rather than simply portraying his unusual and beautiful face.
