Airplane
Mixed media on a cradled panel
14"x14", 2022. #1406
Having grown up with only a sister and mostly female relatives,
I had little experience being around young boys until I had my son.
At first, I didn’t know what kinds of toys he would enjoy or how to play with him
—so different from the dollhouses I had known.
Now he is sixteen, and we are navigating the transition into adulthood.
I often find myself missing the years when he was small,
when I could balance him on my legs and pretend he was an airplane.
As he prepares to leave home, I’m reminded how quickly time passes,
and how much I cherish those simple, playful moments.
